Strange: On the one hand, the term "race" is considered wrong and outdated.

According to the will of this coalition, it should also be erased from the Basic Law, which has so far stipulated that nobody should be disadvantaged or preferred because of their race.

On the other hand, accusations of racism have become a popular political sport.

Pointing out the integration problems of young men with a migration background is denounced as "racist resentment", as is explaining special problems with the respective cultural background.

Naming and sharpening

It can never be ruled out that racists might feel vindicated by such debates.

But that's not what politics can do.

The discussion about Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine shouldn't be limited because certain positions could potentially play into Putin's hands.

No: Politicians have to name the problems, especially in a critical situation, and they also have to escalate them.

This is by no means a slap in the face for all citizens with a migration background.

On the contrary: It is in their own interest that undesirable developments are made visible and remedied.

Racists are enemies of the constitution.

But you don't fight racism by inflating the accusation of racism.

Unfortunately, not a few make a living from it.
