After being harassed by a large part of the secessionism for announcing his presence at the Spanish-French summit to be held in Barcelona,

Pere Aragonès

has warned this Thursday that he will take advantage of the meeting between

Pedro Sánchez

and

Emmanuel Macron

to defend Catalonia as a "State".

"If we want to be a state, we will have to act like a state.

States defend their interests.

We have to take advantage of [the summit] to defend the interests of Catalonia," said the president of the Generalitat.

Aragonès will send Moncloa a list of issues to be addressed during the conclave that will take place on January 19, including issues related to the Catalan language, border crossings and energy and rail connections, with special emphasis on the Mediterranean Corridor.

Aragonès continues to deny that going to the summit and at the same time sending ERC representatives to protest against the presence of Sánchez and Macron at the rally organized by the ANC, Òmnium and the Consell per la República is a contradiction.

The president

argues

that "the contradiction lies with the Spanish Government" for maintaining that the

process

has ended while the secessionist forces and associations proclaim the opposite in the streets and the Government continues to uphold its desire to turn Catalonia into a sovereign State separated from the rest from Spain.

To shore up his position, it will be the ERC president himself,

Oriol Junqueras

, who will lead the delegation of Republican leaders who protest in the streets against the summit.
