A 24-year-old municipal police officer was violently attacked by several people this Saturday evening in Melun (Seine-et-Marne).

The agent was then off duty and was leaving a restaurant with friends, reports

La République de Seine-et-Marne

.

The man, who was in civilian clothes for his day off, was recognized by a young homeless man he had arrested in flagrante delicto a few days earlier.

The alleged attacker ran after him and punched him in the face, before calling other individuals who in turn punched the victim.

Ten days of ITT

The policeman called colleagues for reinforcements and several police-rescue officers quickly arrested the suspect, also 24 years old.

The victim, for his part, received 10 days of ITT for the injuries suffered.

The man responsible for the attack has been taken into custody.

He will be tried for "violence against a law enforcement officer" by the criminal court next June.
