• Foreign Affairs High-level meeting of Spain and Morocco: on February 1 and 2 in Rabat

No minister from United We Can be part of the government delegation that will participate in the high-level meeting with Morocco to be held on February 1 and 2 in Rabat.

Neither is the one with the highest rank, the second vice president and Minister of Labor,

Yolanda Díaz

, who has transferred to Moncloa the "political decision" not to go to that summit, according to what Europa Press has advanced and EL MUNDO confirmed.

The reasons for not attending are not officially made explicit, but it is worth remembering the strong clash that took place within the Government between the PSOE and Unidas Podemos when the president, Pedro Sánchez, surprised by turning around the historic Spanish position on the Sahara to align now with Morocco and bless Rabat's plans to treat the region as one more province of the country.

This discrepancy, which remains alive, is what is behind Díaz and the rest of the members of United We Can have made the decision not to attend.

From what is known at the moment, Sánchez will go to that summit accompanied by a dozen government ministers.

They will all be from the socialist wing.

Therefore, those responsible for United We Can, such as the Minister of Social Rights and Secretary General of Podemos,

Ione Belarra

, will not attend ;

the Minister of Equality,

Irene Montero

;

the Minister of Consumption and leader of the IU,

Alberto Garzón

, nor the Minister of Universities,

Joan Subirats

.

The high-level meeting with Morocco has not been held since June 2015. The meeting was scheduled to take place in December 2020, however, the position that the Government adopted with Morocco -Pedro Sánchez did not travel to the country on his first international visit and Pablo Iglesias, then vice president, positioned himself in favor of the Sahara - caused the cancellation.
