China this week resumed its military exercises in the Taiwan Strait, which separates mainland China and the island of the same name, a few months after the heightened tensions revived after the visit of Nancy Pelosi.

Europe 1 is interested in this island coveted by the Chinese communist regime.

The island of Taiwan will be one of the hotspots of the year 2023 in the world.

A few months after the new tensions with China, revived after a visit by the former American speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, last August, Beijing resumed this week its military exercises in the wide strait of 160 kilometers which separates mainland China from Taiwan.

Europe, the UN and even the United States are keeping a watchful eye on the region, which could become in a few years the scene of a war that is as deadly as it is devastating.

Probably "not in the coming months", according to Bruno Tertrais

Indeed, the United States is already establishing the possible scenarios of a world war that, according to them, China would have no chance of winning.

For Beijing, a province to recover

If this 36,000 km² island attracts so much attention, it is primarily due to a butterfly effect on a global scale.

The first effect dates from 1949, with Chinese nationalists fleeing communist mainland China to settle on the island.

Over the years, Taiwan resembles an independent state with a government, a currency and an army.

But for Beijing, it is only a rebellious province to recover gently or by force.

This possible recovery is an unacceptable scenario for the United States.

This is the second butterfly effect: the island is an ally of Washington, and geographically, control of the strait gives access to the Pacific which American fleets cannot do without.

Manufacture of the most efficient electronic chips in the world

The third wingbeat is Taiwan's specialization in micro-conductors.

In total, 90% of the most powerful chips in the world are produced there.

It is actually an electronic deterrent island bomb: without these microprocessors, Western prosperity like that of Beijing comes to an end.

The Taiwanese president considers this industry as "the nation's sacred protective mountain".
