The

Peruvian Prosecutor's Office

has initiated preliminary investigations against President

Dina Boluarte;

her prime minister,

Alberto Otárola,

and the head of Defense,

Jorge Chávez,

and Interior,

Víctor Rojas

for alleged crimes of genocide, qualified homicide and serious injuries during the demonstrations in the southern

Andes

in December and January.

The Public Ministry

's decision

came while Congress was discussing a vote of confidence in Boluarte's second cabinet, in what is presumed to be a very close result.

After the 18 violent deaths in the border state of

Puno,

the provisional figure has risen to 45 by adding those who died in December.

The Juliaca

massacre

was caused when hundreds of protesters tried to violently take over the airport in that region of the southern Andes and were brutally repressed by police and military.

The violent coven ended at dawn with the execution of a

police non-commissioned officer,

who was ambushed by almost a hundred radicals and burned to death, after his murderers forced him to undress, as was recorded on a video.

The Peruvian Prosecutor's Office maintains seven investigations against former President

Pedro Castillo,

today imprisoned in the same

Barbadillo

prison as the dictator

Alberto Fujimori,

its only two residents.

The Public Ministry has also included former Prime Minister

Pedro Angulo

and former Defense Minister

César Cervantes in its investigations.
