Ernesto, the dragon fish from the Limoges Aquarium (Haute-Vienne), was successfully operated on on Tuesday, reports Le Populaire du Center.

The animal suffered from an eye problem that threatened its survival.

The arowana, the species of Asian fish to which Ernesto belongs, hunts its prey on the surface of the water or outside, by jumping.

However, the resident of the Limoges Aquarium had his eyes pointing downwards, preventing him from eating properly, and fatty deposits were beginning to threaten his sight, explains France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine.

The operation goes smoothly

The operation required the intervention of a veterinary surgeon based in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne).

The Scales Reserve, an association specializing in fish, had launched an online kitty to finance the operation.

In just a few days, the necessary 1,000 euros were collected and the intervention could be planned.

After a 40-minute surgery, Ernesto is now well and the operation was a success.

“We are still nervous about post-operative reactions and healing,” said Katia Autier, project manager at the Scales Reserve, at
