The day after the Golden Globes, which largely rewarded these three films, the American actors' union (SAG) and that of directors (DGA), announced the nominations for the awards they organize, widely followed to determine which productions have the wind on the rise before the Oscars which will take place on March 12.

The three feature films are each nominated for the category "outstanding performance of the casting", the equivalent of the best film at the SAG Awards, in front of "Babylon" and "Women Talking".

In all, “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once” are each nominated in five categories by the actors union.

The tragic Irish comedy, which tells the abrupt end of a friendship on an imaginary island in the 1920s, earns a nomination for the best actor award to Colin Farrell, already awarded at the Golden Globes for his role as an islander in pain .

Fellow cast members Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon are also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Also awarded at the Golden Globes, Michelle Yeoh, the star of "Everything Everywhere All At Once", is nominated in the best actress category, for her role in this surreal comedy where she plays a laundry owner exhausted by her administrative hassles, suddenly confronted the existence of parallel universes.

Actors Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, who play the other leads, are nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

For his part, "The Fabelmans", where Paul Dano plays the role of the father of Steven Spielberg, who witnesses helplessly the sinking of his couple and the dreaded obsession of his son for the cinema, is also nominated for the SAG Awards, which will take place on February 26.

But the actors' union surprisingly snubbed Michelle Williams, who plays the director's on-screen mother.

Rewarded as best director at the Golden Globes, Mr. Spielberg was also nominated Wednesday by the Union of American Directors (DGA) for his film, largely inspired by his childhood.

Just like filmmakers Martin McDonagh and Daniel Kwan, respectively behind "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "Everything Everywhere All At Once".

The trio will face directors Joseph Kosinski ("Top Gun: Maverick") and Todd Field ("Tar") at the DGA Awards, which takes place on February 18.

In the best first film category, the syndicate nominated two French directors: Alice Diop for "Saint Omer" and Audrey Diwan for "L'Evénement".

On Wednesday, the streaming giant Netflix also announced that it will broadcast the SAG Awards on its Youtube page this year, before broadcasting the ceremony on its platform in 2024. This will position the American actors' union awards as a frontal competitor of the Golden Globes, entangled for two years in accusations of racism, sexism and corruption.
