Just over four months after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police, people in Iran continue to gather to protest against the country's government.

Close to 20,000 people are believed to have been detained since the demonstrations began in September.

According to Reuters, however, the demonstrations have subsided significantly since the country began executing people just weeks after they were arrested.

On Tuesday, another man was sentenced to death after taking part in the protests.

Among the accusations is the recurring term "corruption on the face of the earth" in Iranian judicial administration, according to the Iranian legal system's website Mizan.

The death row inmate allegedly led rioters and participated in arson, according to the judge in the summary trial with minimal transparency.

The sentence can be appealed.

18 have been sentenced to death

So far, 18 people have been sentenced to death for participating in protests that began on September 16 in connection with the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.

Four people have been executed so far, which has drawn strong condemnation from large parts of the world.

"The administration of justice and the death penalty are used as weapons by the Iranian regime to punish individuals who participate in protests and to instill fear in a population so that opposition can be suppressed," writes UN human rights chief Volker Türk's office OHCHR in a statement.

The Swedish government also again condemns death sentences and the execution of the death penalty in Iran in a statement on Tuesday:

"Sweden strongly condemns the executions carried out in Iran in connection with the ongoing protests.

Sweden and the rest of the EU oppose the death penalty always, everywhere and regardless of the circumstances.”

Protests against the judges

Outside the Rajai Shahr prison in the northern Iranian city of Karaj, people protested on Monday against the death sentences.

Two of the convicts, who are accused of having killed three members of Iran's security forces in connection with the protests, are said to have been moved to isolation cells in the prison ahead of their executions.

- All the rulers know.

They have accused my son of this.

It's not justice, cries a woman whose 22-year-old son is one of those who will soon be executed.
