The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, has assured that there are no "magic wands" or "a single measure" that by itself can "guarantee that all murders" are avoided" by sexists, for which reason she considers that the solutions that can be provided to deal with these black months of gender violence, they have to go beyond the "police issue" and address more human, financial and training resources in various fields.

In any case, the minister has shown interest in knowing the details of the Ministry of the Interior's approach to notify women in some way that their partner has a history of gender violence.

"We need to specify that proposal," she said in an interview on Cadena Ser, although she has not gone into the substance or legal doubts about whether it could be applied for violating data protection.

He does agree that you have to "focus" on the aggressors, because "behind every murdered woman there is an abuser."

In this regard, he has pointed out on account of the Interior proposal that everything that is going to protect women is going to be defended.

Montero has acknowledged that she is very concerned about the open crisis with the rebound in cases.

December has been the month with the most sexist murders since there are records, with 11 women dead and 12 orphaned minors.

It is one of the worst months in history since there are records.

But it is that January is beginning with numerous new cases.

There are already six women murdered.

For all these reasons, the Ministry of Equality requested a meeting with the Interior about 20 days ago, but it has not yet been held.

Montero has acknowledged that he does not even have a date to meet with the head of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, although he has guaranteed that the work "is not stopped" because the secretaries of State are in "permanent" communication and there is "absolute institutional unity". .

Montero has delved into the fact that gender violence is "structural" and that for this reason "it is not enough" to resort only to the "police perspective", because it is necessary to work hand in hand with Education, Health or Social Rights since it is a " comprehensive fight" in which the detection of cases must also be done in institutes, health centers or hospitals.

"Before it climbs to the highest point, which is murder."

That is why it calls for more human and economic resources and to give more specialized training to professionals who are in different fields to detect signs of violence early.

Here he has underlined, for example, the relevance of primary care or hospital emergencies.

Equality assumes "as its own" the task of coordinating the fight against sexist violence and recognizes that it has things to "improve" such as residences to accommodate battered women, especially adapting to disabled or older women who cannot access health services. emergency.

In any case, it has highlighted that the investment in addressing gender violence is being historic.

The Ministry of Equality will allocate some 260 million euros to this in 2023. Some 51 million more than the previous year.

Most of it is transferred to the autonomous communities (130 million) and local entities (40 million).
