A month after the Netflix documentary about Harry and his wife Meghan aired, the British monarchy faces far more damning revelations with the January 10 release of the prince's memoir.

The Alternate

is an unfiltered story that is already causing a sensation.

Harry recounts in particular a violent altercation with his brother William, having taken cocaine, or his opposition to the remarriage of his father Charles, now king.

Accompanied by archive images of the life of Princess Diana's second son, a look back at her statements from the prince.

  • Youngest son of Charles, who became king in September, and the late Princess Diana, Harry was born in 1984, two years after Prince William.

  • In an interview with the ITV channel, Harry confides that he suffered “38 years of intentional distortion and manipulation”, which led him to write his memoirs.

They were for him "necessary" to establish "historical facts".

  • But he assures that it was not “done with the intention of hurting or harming” his father Charles III, his brother William or his family.

  • He needed to speak out because "some members have decided to ally with the devil to rehabilitate their image", at his expense and that of his family.

  • On his mother's death in August 1997, Harry said he read the secret government file, redacted photos of the car accident.

He explains that he used the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris several times as an adult, where Diana died.

  • In

    Le Suppléant

, he describes the moment when his father informed him of his mother's death: "He was standing beside the bed, his eyes lowered.

He looked like, with his white nightgown, like a ghost in a play (…): ''My dear child, Mama had a car accident.'' What I remember, with stunning clarity, is is that I didn't cry.

    Not the slightest tear.

    Dad didn't hug me.

(…) But he put his hand on my knee again, and he said: ''It's going to be fine''.

  • Harry recalls the day of his mother Diana's funeral in 1997 when, aged 12, he walked behind her coffin.

  • “The rattle of the bridles (…) the hooves hitting the concrete and sometimes … the gravel underfoot and the cries of the crowd”, he recalled in an interview with the ITV channel.

“But otherwise, complete silence is something that will forever be in my memory.

He admits to having "cried only once, at his funeral".

  • Despite, or perhaps because of his difficult nature, Harry has remained popular with part of the public, who remember the image of the 12-year-old boy behind his mother's coffin.

  • In his book, concerning the controversy of his costume in Nazi uniform in 2005, he writes: “I called Willy and Kate to ask them their opinion.

''The Nazi uniform'', they replied in unison.

I rented it, along with a fake mustache to add a layer of ridiculousness, and went home.

    I tried on my costume.

Kate and Willy howled with laughter.

  • He earned a reputation as a party animal, acknowledging in his memoirs that he used cannabis and cocaine.

  • In 2012, he once again made the front page of The

    Sun

with photos of himself naked at a party in Las Vegas.

  • Prince Harry reveals in his memoirs that he killed 25 "Taliban" when he was employed as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan.

  • In 2017, he appears publicly with Meghan Markle and engages with her.

  • The flamboyant wedding in May 2018 between Prince Harry, now 38, and Meghan, a divorced mixed-race American actress, seems to give the royal family a facelift.

  • It quickly turned to family warfare and media harassment, pushing the “Sussexes” to leave the monarchy with a bang in 2020.

  • The couple have since publicly criticized the Royal Family and their communications teams, including in a 2021 interview where they accused a family member of racism.

During the interview on ITV to promote his memoir, Harry denied accusing the Royal Family of racism.

  • Since then, the two brothers, once united behind the coffin of their mother Diana in 1997, have been openly cold, only appearing together on extremely rare occasions.

  • In

    The Substitute

, the Duke of Sussex accuses his brother William, heir to the throne, of knocking him to the ground during a 2019 row over Meghan.

William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my collar off, and knocked me to the ground,” said Harry, adding that he “landed on the dog bowl”.

    William would then "apologize".

  • The prince gave several television interviews to promote and defend his memoirs, from California where he went into exile in 2020 with his wife Meghan.

  • Harry now says he's "in a good frame of mind" to have a conversation with his family.

  • "It's been hard, I'm not going to lie," he said of the past few years, but "the reality is I've never been happier."
