• Politics Ciudadanos closes the primary campaign with a muddy debate that eclipses the end of the Refoundation

  • Primaries Last round Guasp-Bal for the control of Citizens between "lies and insults"

The future of Ciudadanos is already in the hands directly of its affiliates.

Over the next two days, the militancy is called upon to decide its next management committee, just a few days before the extraordinary Assembly for the refounding of the Liberals and on the verge of a year with a double electoral date in which the formation its survival is fully at stake on the political scene.

The two main candidacies, the one led by

Edmundo Bal

and

Santiago Saura

, and the continuation one, by

Patricia Guasp

and

Adrián Vázquez

, closed the campaign yesterday with separate acts with the bases of the party in which they called for the vote to redirect the complex situation that it is going through liberal training.

A climax that was like the entire campaign: intense until the final minute.

Edmundo Bal's candidacy maintained contact until the last moment with the third way, of

Marcos Morales

and

Laura Alves

, to try to join forces before the continuation candidacy, which

Inés Arrimadas

closes and which is the favorite, according to the internal pools and the number of guarantees.

As this newspaper has learned, the negotiations between Bal and the third candidacy had been taking place informally in recent weeks, but they intensified after the debate on Monday afternoon.

However, the talks did not reach port and the two lists will fight independently, together with the ruling party, for control of the party.

A scenario that, according to fears in Edmundo Bal's entourage, could fragment the vote to punish the current leadership and seriously harm a change of command in the

orange

dome .

In this sense, Bal offered Morales and his team up to a dozen positions in the Executive if the alliance finally triumphed and took over the leadership of the apparatus, several of them among the first holes in the leadership.

The refusal of this plan will mean that there are finally no surprises and the Ciudadanos militancy will find three ballots when they vote between today and tomorrow.

Primaries to elect the candidate

Despite everything, Edmundo Bal remains firm in his roadmap and even seriously considers the idea of also attending the primaries that will be held in a few months to choose the candidate who stands for the general elections, even if he does not win in the current one. internal process, of which the results will be known at the end of this Thursday.

Will there be room for Bal in the

orange

dome if the Guasp and Vázquez team win?

This is confirmed by the coordinator of Ciudadanos in the Balearic Islands: "We maintain free spaces, not as the other candidate has done."

From the environment of Guasp and Vázquez it is assured that there have also been contacts with the list of Morales and Alves.

Yesterday, however, the attitude of the State lawyer became ugly again: "Bal has not done much of his part in recent days to reach that consensus," lamented Guasp at the closing of the campaign, an act where he again denounced the "disrespect" towards Inés Arrimadas, as well as the "falsehoods" and "insults" on which her main competitor has based her strategy in recent weeks.

In fact, as Adrián Vázquez stressed, this directly influences the unity that the party will try to find starting next Monday.

On January 16, one day after closing the refoundation, it is highlighted in the

orange

calendar as the moment in which the party must close its wounds and focus on the imminent future of the May elections: "We have little time left," he warned to your competitors.
