Car-T is the cancer treatment that enables the human body to heal itself.

With the help of the patient's own cells, the cancer is attacked - a method that in some cases has proven to be more effective than radiotherapy and drugs.

A way has already been found to eliminate a certain form of lymph node cancer.

- 10 to 15 patients who previously could not receive any effective treatment will now be able to be cured, says Mats Jerkeman, professor and chief physician at Scania University Hospital in Lund.

May cause side effects

But the method is both expensive and complicated and cannot yet be classified as a universal treatment against cancer.

So far, it only works on the cancers leukemia, lymph node cancer and myeloma.

There are also a number of side effects.

- The treatment can cause a fever but can also lead to a reaction similar to blood poisoning, in which case you may need intensive care.

But it is temporary and usually goes away in a few days, says Mats Jerkeman.
