In the clip, you get a taste of what Ruben Östlund's contact with the audience might look like

How does a cinema audience actually act?

Ruben Östlund wants to find out with the help of a special performance at Draken on February 28, when the 46th film festival in Gothenburg has just started.

In the performance "This is cinema!"

Östlund's film "Triangle of sadness" is shown on the big screen and the director himself will be in the salon to direct his own audience.

Mobile phone in the salon is discussed

"Now I have worked for five years making a film and then when I show it, you have no respect for it.

After all, the cinema room has a completely different role than you sitting and scrolling dopamine on your mobile phone!”

The quote is taken from the trailer where Östlund scolds the way the audience uses their mobile phones during a film performance.

Mobile phone on or off is one of the issues to be discussed.

"Here we hide in the rows of benches and take less responsibility for the performance.

After the screenings, we go home without discussing what we have seen.

That type of cinema visit is hardly worth leaving the individual screens for," says Ruben Östlund himself in a press release.

Want to get to know the audience

Ruben Östlund also wants to get to know his audience before he starts the debate.

- In order to buy a ticket to the show, you have to answer some of Ruben Östlund's questions: how much do you earn, who do you vote for, when did you last cry, so that he can get to know the audience in the venue, says Jonas Holmberg, artistic director Göteborg Film Festival.

One of the questions is what role does the audience play during a performance?

- Yes exactly.

He wants to focus on the cinema being a social space where we take responsibility for each other and how we influence each other with experiences, says Jonas Holmberg.

The performance takes place at the Draken cinema in Gothenburg on Saturday 28 January.
