• Puigdemont urges the independence movement to protest in Barcelona against "the deluded gravediggers" Sánchez and Macron

ERC will carry out a balancing act during the Spanish-French summit to be held in Barcelona on January 19.

Pere Aragonès

will attend the conclave in which

Pedro Sánchez

and

Emmanuel Macron

will participate while members of his party protest in the streets during a rally promoted by the ANC, Òmnium and the Consell per la República led by

Carles Puigdemont

.

After the recent repeal of the crime of sedition and the reduction of the embezzlement promoted by the Government to favor the separatists, the president of the Generalitat will avoid boycotting Sánchez and not only by attending the summit, but by guaranteeing that no member of the Catalan Executive will participate in the secessionist demonstration, which will be attended by the main leaders of Junts, his former partner.

"The summit is used for partisan purposes, but it is held in Catalonia and the

president

will be there," said the Government's spokesperson,

Patrícia Plaja

, who has defended that the Catalan Executive "does not have to resign or give away the spaces that correspond to it" and that Aragonès - whose role in the meeting is yet to be decided - "will defend the voice and consensus of Catalonia", in reference to the supposed majority that supports the holding of a self-determination referendum.

The ERC strategy will surely be interpreted as a new betrayal of the sovereignist cause by Puigdemont and his acolytes.

Not in vain, the president of the Generalitat, a fugitive from the Spanish Justice, already pointed out that the Spanish-French summit seeks to "demobilize and break unity, which have been two great tools to defend Catalonia before the State" and called on secessionists to mobilize on January 19 to "defend the country against deluded gravediggers."
