At least 17 people have been killed in clashes between police and protesters in Peru.

The demonstrators, who are critical of the new president Dina Boluarte, demand a new election.

At the same time, the new government is doing everything to crush the protests with violence.

- The gap between political power in the capital Lima and the poorer interior, where the protests are centered, has never been greater, says SVT's correspondent Tigran Feiler.
