On January 9, local time, the United Nations Security Council voted to pass a resolution submitted by Brazil and Switzerland to extend cross-border humanitarian aid in Syria for another six months to July 10, 2023.

The extension resolution was unanimously approved by the members of the Security Council.

  According to the previous Security Council Resolution 2642, the authorization for cross-border humanitarian assistance in Syria expires on January 10, 2023. The resolution stipulates that an additional six-month extension must be authorized through a separate Security Council resolution.

  UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Syria Pei Kairu, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Griffiths have repeatedly stated in the Security Council that it is very important to continue to provide cross-border humanitarian assistance to northwestern Syria through Turkey.
