On Monday, the government announced that it wants to reintroduce the so-called civil duty;

the civilian equivalent of conscription, but where instead of carrying arms you can support civil society in various ways.

According to Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister for Civil Defence, it is a matter of a first step that people with rescue service competence who are deployed with civil duty within municipal rescue services.

MSB estimates that this group includes around 3,000 people.

And this is much needed, says Mårten Eskilsson.

- Should we get a big strain with several fires at the same time, this would be an incredible support during high alert.

In the clip, Mårten Eskilsson tells how many more rescuers the rescue service in Strängnäs could get if the civil duty was reintroduced and what he thinks about the duty being removed in 2008.
