• The city of Lille has adopted a new control system for establishments open to the public.

  • In a control operation, compliance with the rules of hygiene, fire safety and town planning will be verified.

  • The first operation of this type resulted in two administrative closures and a formal notice to snacks.

Broad spectrum control.

At the start of 2023, the city of Lille set up a new control system for establishments open to the public (ERP).

A system that aims to be more efficient in that it combines, in a single operation, all health and safety checks such as hygiene, health or fire safety.

During the first implementation, last Wednesday, of the three fast food brands checked, two were subject to administrative closure.

The town hall of Lille describes its new weapon as a "transversal control device".

In fact, it is an “all in one” combination of what was already practiced, but not simultaneously.

During these operations, the establishments concerned will therefore see the municipal and national police, hygiene and health service, fire safety commission, town planning service and firefighters suddenly disembark.

"Trigger closures in a timely manner"

This tool "aims to increase the safety of the public frequenting these public buildings by controlling, during the same visit, fire safety, hygiene, sanitation and noise pollution", explains the city, adding that the device made it possible to " initiate closures in a timely manner”.

Effectiveness demonstrated from the first try.

On Wednesday, three "snacks" in the popular district of Lille-Sud were checked.

Two of them were subject to administrative closures for “serious breaches of fire safety” and “severe breaches of hygiene rules”.

The third is doing better, with a simple formal notice pronounced after the observation of “significant defects in the rules of food conservation”.

All of them were also fined for the noise pollution caused by their smoke extractors.

Three birds with one stone.

The municipality warns that new checks of this type will take place in the coming weeks.

A rise in power which will concern all the districts of the city.
