China News Service, Beijing, January 9th (Reporter Liang Xiaohui Huang Yuqin) Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference on the 9th.

A reporter asked: We have noticed that recently, the foreign ministries of Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and other countries have stated that in view of the surge in confirmed cases in China, their citizens are advised not to travel to China unless necessary.

How does China respond to this?

Wang Wenbin: China has always put the people first and life first. The severity rate and death rate of the new coronavirus infection are the lowest in the world.

With the significant weakening of the pathogenicity and virulence of the Omicron mutant strain and the continuous improvement of China's medical treatment, pathogen detection, and vaccination capabilities, China has actively optimized and adjusted its prevention and control measures according to the time and situation, and is fighting a prepared battle .

At present, the relevant Chinese departments focus on "protecting health and preventing severe illness", making every effort to do a good job in the allocation of medical resources, supply of drug production capacity, and vaccination coverage, focusing on protecting key groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and children, and doing everything possible to reduce severe illness and death. .

The overall epidemic situation in China is improving. Some provinces and cities in China have passed the peak of the epidemic, and production and life have accelerated to return to normal.

China has always insisted on timely, openly and transparently sharing information such as virus mutation monitoring and infected population with the international community.

Over the past three years, China has carried out more than 60 technical exchanges with the World Health Organization, including four in the last month.

China has also continued to share viral genetic data on newly infected cases through the Global Influenza Sharing Database.

We hope that all parties will uphold scientific principles, jointly ensure the safe and smooth travel of people from various countries, and contribute to international solidarity in fighting the epidemic and the recovery of the world economy.
