According to Thomas Nilsson, NATO membership will involve both a cultural and mental journey, and will have an impact on Sweden's total defence.

- We have been militarily non-aligned for 200 years.

Now we have to go in and think that we should not contribute to NATO, but be part of NATO, he says.

In addition to the mental journey, the membership will also be seen in the Swedish legislation.

Something that the Swedish Armed Forces has already raised with the government, says Nilsson.

- An example could be a team room that controls how we can send Swedish personnel abroad.

Another thing is if we receive allied units in Sweden, what violence mandate do they then have, says Nilsson.

So what else will NATO membership mean for total defence?
