A man was recently sentenced in Avignon (Vaucluse) for setting fire to a vehicle and attempting to injure police officers.

The facts referred to date back to December 19, 2022, reports Le Dauphiné this Friday.

The scene took place around 11:30 p.m. in downtown Avignon.

City police were called to a burned vehicle.

At the scene, officers discovered the car in question and a 26-year-old man observing the scene nearby.

Damages for the three agents

Suddenly, this spectator got behind the wheel of a car and reversed at full speed, hitting the police vehicle.

The latter took aim at the suspect but the man left just as quickly.

The police officers narrowly avoided the shock before managing to subdue the suspect.

Already known to justice, the young man was tried for the fire of the vehicle and the attempted assault on the police.

He was sentenced to 3 years in prison, including an additional year resulting from the revocation of a previous reprieve.

Each of the three police officers received 3,000 euros in damages.
