In Kherson, in the South, Governor Yaroslav Yanushevich reported one dead and one injured in a Russian bombardment that hit a residential area.

In the east, Russian troops carried out a "massive bombardment" on Kurakhivka, which injured at least two people and damaged around 20 houses, according to Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko.

sentence of the day

Basically, these deliveries cannot and will not change anything (…) These deliveries can only prolong the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

»

These are the words of Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov who, during a press conference, also assured that "Europe, NATO and the United States" had "already injected tens of billions of dollars in Ukraine and in arms deliveries".

According to the Kremlin, these deliveries of armored infantry will not “change” the balance of forces.

The number of the day

50.

This is the number of Ukrainian soldiers released on Monday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Among them are "defenders from the Kyiv and Donetsk regions, Mariupol and the south of the country", he said.

kyiv did not detail the nature of this exchange of prisoners, an occasional practice between Ukraine and Russia since the start of the war last February.

The trend of the day

The area of the city of Bakhmout remains the most tense of the front.

Fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces is raging there, but progress on either side is rare.

Pro-Russian separatists in the Donetsk region, however, claimed to have taken control of a village near Bakhmout.

The locality of Bakhmoutské, in the Donetsk region, “has been liberated by the Russian armed forces”, indicated the separatists of this region whose annexation Moscow claims.

In a statement posted on social networks, the Wagner mercenary group, led by a businessman close to the Kremlin, however claimed that this village had already been "liberated" by its men last month.

Russian forces, led in particular by mercenaries from the Wagner group, have been seeking to take Bakhmout for months, but they face fierce resistance from the Ukrainians.

The two camps notably engaged in a ferocious artillery duel which reduced part of the city to ruins.

Bakhmoutské is located right next to the town of Soledar, also the scene of heavy fighting.

And in a separate statement released on Monday, Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said the assault on Soledar was "exclusively" carried out by members of his organization.

These statements illustrate the growing rivalry that exists, according to many analysts, between the Russian Ministry of Defense on the one hand and the Wagner group on the other.
