A 57-year-old man was arrested this Sunday morning in the city center of Grenoble (Isère).

He is suspected of having threatened to kill altar boys in a church, reports Le Dauphiné.

The facts occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the Saint-André collegiate church.

Mass was about to begin when the man entered the church and took his seat.

The 50-year-old would then have mimed a gesture of slaughter in the direction of the altar boys before leaving.

The suspect taken into custody

Parishioners who saw his gesture immediately alerted the police.

A suspect matching the description that had been made was arrested a few minutes later and was recognized and identified by witnesses.

The 50-year-old firmly denied the charges against him.

He was taken into custody for “repeated death threats committed on the basis of race, ethnicity, nation or religion”.
