Brazil: after the attack on places of power, Lula denounces "terrorist acts"

Brazil's main places of power are now under control in Brasilia, after being attacked and ransacked on Sunday by supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, the far-right former president recently defeated by Lula.

Lula has regained possession of his office by denouncing an action by "terrorists" and the time has come to restore order.

Together, the heads of the executive, the legislative and the judiciary issued a statement to reject "

terrorist acts, vandalism, criminal acts and putschists

".

They call on the population to “

maintain serenity in defense of peace and democracy

”.

Apart from the presence of many members of the police, the heart of Brasilia was deserted and desolate this Monday morning, January 9.

At least 1,300 people detained since Sunday

There was also a major operation to dismantle the camp set up by the Bolsonarists in front of the army headquarters in Brasilia.

Installed for more than two months, they demanded a military intervention to prevent Lula's accession to power.

This camp provided the bulk of the attackers on Sunday.

A thousand people have been taken into custody, in addition to the 300 who were arrested on Sunday.

The rioters caused considerable damage in the three huge palaces.

And similar operations have taken place all over the country, including in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, two important states ruled by allies of

Jair Bolsonaro
