An avalanche claimed one victim this Monday at midday in the Col de Larche sector, in the Ubaye valley (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).

A 50-year-old woman died, we learned from the gendarmerie.

A total of seven people were affected.

Four emerged unscathed and the other two are in shock.

The gendarmerie specifies that its high mountain platoon was warned shortly before 1 p.m. The Civil Security helicopter carrying a canine team and a doctor was quickly mobilized.

The Briançon gendarmerie and other PGHM soldiers in the region also intervened.

A total of 20 rescuers on foot or transported by helicopter went to the scene.

At this stage, the geographical origin of the victim is not known.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the prosecution of Digne-les-Bains.
