It has almost been eight months since the Riksdag took the historic decision to apply for membership in NATO and thus break Sweden's more than 200-year-long tradition of freedom of military alliances.

The decision was made days after Finland also decided to apply for membership in the military alliance.

But the road ahead for Sweden has not been easy.

During the process, Turkey has blocked Sweden's entry with, among other things, demands for the extradition of alleged terrorists and people with connections to the Kurdish party PKK.

Meeting before People and Defence

On Sunday morning, Ulf Kristersson (M), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Social Democrats party leader Magdalena Andersson will meet to discuss the situation in the Swedish membership process.

When People and Defense then begins at lunch, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, the Social Democrats' party leader Magdalena Andersson and NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg are among others on the speaker list.

Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto will also give a speech on how military cooperation can be deepened within the NATO defense alliance.

From 12.32, SVT broadcasts a seminar on Sweden and Finland in NATO with Ulf Kristersson, Finland's Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Afterwards, a press conference with Ulf Kristersson and Defense Minister Pål Jonson will be broadcast at 1:50 p.m.
