The US State Department confirmed that close cooperation between South Korea, Japan and the United States is very important in dealing with a range of challenges facing allies in the Indo-Pacific region, including the security threat from North Korea.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that ways to enhance tripartite cooperation will be an important issue during the US-Japanese discussions scheduled in a few days.

US President Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the White House, next Friday, after the defense and foreign ministers hold the annual meeting of the Security Advisory Committee in Washington.

"We have a very strong relationship with our Japanese allies, which will appear very clearly next week, when we hold a meeting with our Japanese allies and when President Biden and the Japanese prime minister meet at the White House," Price said during a press conference in Washington.

Price confirmed that the Biden administration has been working to revive trilateral cooperation since its early days, and it is aware that the challenges it faces in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as, will benefit from a continuous and unified tripartite approach.

In addition, South Korea and Malaysia agreed that North Korean ballistic missile launches threaten security not only in the Korean Peninsula, but also in the region and the entire international community, and stressed the urgent need for a unified and firm response from the international community.

This came during a phone call between South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin and his Malaysian counterpart Zambri Abdul Qadir, during which they discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of high-level exchanges, the defense industry, infrastructure and smart cities, while Abdul Qadir renewed Malaysia's support for the initiative launched by the South Korean government regarding the roadmap for denuclearization.
