The avalanche happened around 1 pm on Friday in Rauma municipality in Romsdal on Norway's west coast.

Three Swedish skiers – all men in their 30s – were dragged along.

Norwegian police announced on Saturday that the deceased was from Western Sweden.

- Relatives have been informed, says Tor-Andre Gram Franck, commander of the police in Møre and Romsdal.

As for the other two Swedes in the party, one is still being treated in hospital.

- He is seriously but not critically injured.

The prognosis seems good, says Tor-Andre Gram Franck and adds about the third Swede who is slightly injured:

- He goes by his own machine.

It was very windy on the mountain in connection with the rescue operation.

The dispatched helicopter could not fly all the way and mountain rescuers had to get to the scene on skis.

What caused the avalanche is unclear, according to Tor-Andre Gram Franck.

- It is difficult to know exactly.

They have been in the terrain and then avalanches can be triggered, and that has been the case here.
