China News Service, Shenyang, January 7th (Reporter Wang Jingwei) On January 7th, the Dandong Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Dandong Municipal People's Government issued an obituary: an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, winner of the "July 1st Medal", "model of the times", "National Comrade Sun Jingkun, a model of morality, passed away at 11:42 on January 7, 2023 in Dandong, Liaoning, at the age of 98.
Sun Jingkun is a native of Shancheng Village, Jinshan Town, Yuanbao District, Dandong City, Liaoning Province. In January 1948, 24-year-old Sun Jingkun signed up to join the Chinese People's Liberation Army and went south and north with the army.
From the War of Liberation to the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, Sun Jingkun successively won first-class merit once, second-class merit twice, and third-class merit twice, and was awarded the Medal of Honor for First-Class Soldiers to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea.
After demobilization in 1955, he voluntarily gave up the opportunity to work in the city and returned to the countryside to work in agriculture.
In the decades since then, he has never mentioned the glory he once forged with blood.
It wasn't until the 1990s, when the Memorial Hall to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea was relocated and rebuilt, and cultural relics were collected from the society, that Sun Jingkun decided to donate his merit certificate and other commemorative items, and people knew that he was a fighting hero.
According to Sun Jingkun’s eldest daughter, Sun Meili, the most common sentence her father said when educating the younger generation was: “Don’t ask what the country can do for me, but think more about what I can do for the country.”
On October 14, 2020, Sun Jingkun was awarded the national honorary title of "Model of the Times".
On June 29, 2021, Sun Jingkun was awarded the "July 1 Medal".
On November 5, 2021, Sun Jingkun was awarded the honorary title of the Eighth National Moral Model (Dedication Model).
