China News Agency, Johannesburg, January 7th. On January 7th local time, in response to the long-standing power supply crisis in the country, South African Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gweed Mantashe held a dialogue on the economy and energy security of the ruling African National Congress. It was stated at the meeting that South Africa's top priority is to manage the country's power generation system, rather than upgrading the power generation method, so as to maintain the basic power supply capacity.

Previously, the South African government announced to speed up the reform of South Africa's power system and actively introduce new energy generation methods.

In this regard, Mantaxie said that South Africa's focus should be on better management of Nagrid's power plants.

Mantashe pointed out that in the face of the increasingly serious power supply crisis in South Africa, the South African government's focus should be to increase the energy availability of the South African National Power Company to the industry standard of 75% to maintain basic power supply capacity.

Mantashe said frankly that it is urgent for South Africa to solve the power supply crisis, otherwise the country's economy will face huge losses.

Currently, low energy availability is plaguing the stable operation of the South African power system. How to solve this problem has become the biggest challenge facing the South African government.

"These are issues that we have to face, and we have to address them with actions, not rhetoric."

As one of the most important state-owned enterprises in South Africa, the South African National Power Company has been deeply in debt crisis for more than ten years.

Affected by multiple factors such as frequent failures of generator sets, lack of maintenance of equipment, and rising fuel prices, South Africa has successively implemented power reduction measures since 2007.
