Sofia Johansson in the mountain village of Ammarnäs follows the tours in Region Västerbotten's childbirth crisis with increasing concern.

She is expecting her first child in March, but finds it increasingly difficult to believe the Region's promises that BB in Lycksele will be able to stay open.

Didn't expect further closure

At first, Sofia Johansson thought that she and her partner had perfect timing with a birth in March.

In recent years, the nearest BB in Lycksele has closed for a few weeks in the summer - also at Christmas.

Now she is unsure if it turned out so well.

- We thought it wouldn't affect us, she says.

Just over 20 miles by car to the birth turns into 30 or more if she is instead forced to give birth in Skellefteå or Umeå.

But an additional hour in the car is perhaps not what Sofia is most concerned about.
