It has been almost two weeks since the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni) launched the voter identification and registration operation in the western provinces of the DRC.

The Congolese government is keen to respect the electoral calendar for these elections scheduled for December 2023. President Félix Tshisekedi also recalled this in his speech on the state of the nation last month.

On the opposition side, if it is clear that Lamuka of Martin Fayulu, although critical of the process, will participate, it is not so clear for the PPRD, the party of the former president Joseph Kabila.

Its permanent secretary Emmanuel Shadary, threw the pavement in the pond, Thursday, January 5, at the end of a meeting of the executive committee of the party on this subject and the controversies continue.

Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary has been very critical of the current government, which he described as dictatorial, tribalist and corrupt.

According to him, Felix Tshisekedi is today at the head of a “

deliquescent and unstructured

 ” state.

He would not “

 deserve a second term

”.

But the PPRD is also very critical of the current electoral process to the point that there is no question for this party to participate in voter identification and registration operations under current conditions.

No voter card

Clearly, no member of the former presidential party will have his voter card, if the main demands of the political family of Joseph Kabila are not taken into account.

The PPRD has always asked for the recomposition of the office and the plenary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni) which, according to him, would be tailor-made for the benefit of Felix Tshisekedi.

The Boycott Hypothesis

Some members of the PPRD political bureau go even further and do not rule out the possibility of a boycott.

It would not be political suicide but a question of consistency in relation to the diagnosis

", explains Patrick Nkanga, rapporteur for the political office of the PPRD.

Will or will not participate in the next elections?

Everything will be a little clearer with the organization of the congress which should be held this year.
