The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced the monitoring of the Omicron variant in 25 countries, indicating that the organization is closely following the epidemiological situation and assessing the risks.

This coincides with the escalation of concern due to the increasing spread of Corona virus cases in China, as the countries of the world are successively imposing new restrictions on arrivals from the Asian country.

Austria and Greece joined the countries that imposed negative corona tests on those coming from China, including the United States, Italy, Malaysia, Spain, Morocco, Qatar, Canada, South Korea and Taiwan.

On the other hand, China considered today, Friday, that the situation of the Corona pandemic in the country is “under control,” noting that many European Union countries welcome those coming to them from China.

This came in statements by the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mao Ning, commenting on the re-activation of some countries' measures that would impose restrictions on those coming to them from China, according to what was reported by the government newspaper "Global Times".

In particular, Ning called on the European Union countries to listen to "the voices of reason and look at the epidemiological situation in China in an objective way."

Today, Beijing announced new deaths, as the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that it had recorded 5 new deaths from the Corona virus, after the concern expressed by the global organization due to the increasing number of HIV infections in the country.

Washington's position

Commenting on what is happening in China, US President Joe Biden expressed his concern about the Chinese approach to dealing with the Corona virus, and said that Beijing is sensitive when referring to its lack of clarity about the virus outbreak data.

Bloomberg quoted US officials as saying that China had rejected an American offer through private channels to supply it with advanced vaccines.

And it reported that US officials suggested indirect ways to provide vaccines;

In an effort to accommodate political sensitivities in China about accepting foreign aid.

On the other hand, collected data showed that the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus around the world exceeded 662 million and 800 thousand as of Friday morning.

The latest data available on the Johns Hopkins University website showed that the total number of infections reached 662,859,146, while the total number of deaths due to the pandemic reached 6,702,000 and 332 deaths.
