A 29-year-old beautician, living in Cabrières in the Hérault, was sentenced to nine months' suspended imprisonment by the Béziers criminal court.

She was being prosecuted for illegal practice of medicine, deceptive business practice, performance of concealed work and involuntary injuries after failed cosmetic surgeries.

The investigation was entrusted at the beginning of 2022 to the gendarmes of the Valras-Plage brigade, in co-operation with the central office for the fight against damage to the environment and public health, following two complaints.

None of the degrees required

The first victim, aged 44, had gone to the beauty salon for botox injections on the eye contour.

The operation resulted in oedema, dry eyes and headaches.

The second, aged 30, had received an injection of hyaluronic acid in the lips which led to an infection.

The investigations had made it possible to establish that this beautician offered various acts reserved for the medical profession without having the required qualifications and diplomas.

During her police custody, she admitted the facts while claiming to be unaware of the applicable legislation in the matter and to have followed several training courses given by videoconference by foreign professionals.

In addition to her prison sentence, she was sentenced to a fine of 600 euros and will have to pay damages to the two victims.
