Militias allied with the Somali government said that terrorists from the Al-Shabaab movement killed at least six yesterday, while raiding a village in the center of the country from which they were expelled last week.

Somali government forces and allied clan militias have forced the movement's militants to withdraw from large swaths of territory since it launched a major offensive in August, but Al-Shabaab has responded with a series of terrorist attacks, including bombings in the capital, Mogadishu.

At least 35 people were killed and 40 injured on Wednesday when two car bombs exploded in Mahas town in central Somalia.

Yesterday's terrorist attack targeted a village in Hirshabelle state, which the Somali army and allied militia fighters wrested from Al-Shabaab last week.

Hussein Aden, a spokesman for the local tribal militia, said al-Shabaab fighters used car bombs in their attack on the village during dawn prayers.

He added that a gun battle erupted after the attack, during which the terrorists were repulsed, noting that soldiers and clan militia members were among the six dead.

The terrorist Al-Shabaab movement said in a statement that it had regained control of the village and seized military vehicles and weapons, but residents and a local politician denied this.

In connection with this, the Council of Muslim Elders, headed by Sheikh Al-Azhar Sharif and Chairman of the Council, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, condemned the terrorist attack that took place in the Hiran region in central Somalia, and resulted in a number of deaths and injuries.

The Council of Muslim Elders affirmed its categorical rejection of such terrorist acts that are contrary to the tolerant teachings of Islam, all divine laws and international laws and norms, calling for the necessity of coordinating efforts to eliminate this brutal terrorism and uproot it from its roots.

The Council expressed sincere condolences to the government and people of Somalia, and to the families and families of the victims.
