It is reported by Sputnik Near Abroad.

“Sputnik Lithuania editor-in-chief Marat Kasem was detained by the Latvian special services in Riga,” the report says.

It is noted that on January 5, a court session was held, at which Kasem's lawyer insisted that he be released on bail, but the court chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention.

According to the agency, Kasem was detained on suspicion of violating EU anti-Russian sanctions and espionage.

In August, employees of the Latvian State Security Service (SSS) detained Ruslan Pankratov, a former member of the Riga City Council.
