China News Service, January 5 (CBS) reported that on the 4th local time, Biden expressed his intention to visit the US-Mexico border. This will be his first visit to the US-Mexico border since he took office.

It is reported that Biden will meet with the leaders of Mexico and Canada next week.

According to reports, Biden revealed possible future itineraries in an interview with reporters on the 4th. When asked whether he would go to the border, Biden said: "This is my idea, and we are working out the details now."

After returning to the White House, Biden said he wanted to see "what happened" at the border and planned to speak on border security on the 5th.

The surge in migrants at the border comes even as U.S. authorities are rejecting many people who wish to seek asylum in the United States.

Previously, Republicans have repeatedly stated that Biden has never visited the southern border since he took office, and at the same time criticized Biden's border security policy as ineffective.

It follows legal setbacks for the Biden administration in enforcing its immigration policies, with the Supreme Court deciding last month that Section 42 would remain in effect for the time being.

The Trump-era policy allowed border officials to turn away asylum seekers due to public health concerns, and the Biden administration has faced setbacks in trying to end the policy.

Early in his presidency, Biden put Vice President Harris in charge of the White House's handling of immigration at the border.

Harris visited the El Paso immigration processing center in June 2021 and drew criticism for choosing a location that was too far from a border crossing center to waste federal resources.

White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said on the 3rd that the government is advancing preparations for the eventual cancellation of the policy so that officials can "manage the border in a safe, orderly and humane manner."

Pierre added, "However, to truly fix our broken immigration system, we need Congress to act."
