Helagotland.se writes about this on Thursday.

The previous government has decided that Sweden's Natura 2000 areas for birds should be supplemented.

The County Board of Gotland has therefore identified large parts of Gotland's east coast as a suitable area.

The County Administrative Board on Gotland proposes areas to become new Natura 2000 areas.

But in its response to the consultation, Cementa directs criticism at the proposal, saying that it could make operations in and around Slite harbor more difficult.

Cement is shipped from there with around 700 ship calls each year.

According to the company, a Natura 2000 area can also complicate future plans to store carbon dioxide at sea.

SVT Nyheter Öst has contacted Cementa, which declines to comment on the matter further.

Cementa announced last spring that it will continue with plans to capture carbon dioxide from cement production in Slite and store it under the seabed.

In the process of turning limestone into cement, carbon dioxide is formed.

The company now wants to remove this by using carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

But a longer permit to mine lime is absolutely crucial, says vice president Karin Comstedt Webb in the clip.
