Today, Thursday, the Tunisian General Labor Union threatened an escalation in the event that President Kais Saied refused to accept a dialogue that would allow a way out of the stifling crisis that the country is suffering under, indicating that it is in the process of consulting with other Tunisian organizations to launch a rescue initiative.

Tunisian parties, including the Democratic and Republican Bloc, Qutb, Workers and the Democratic Current, called on political and civil forces and the general Tunisian people to demonstrate in condemnation of the political situation in the country next Saturday, January 14, in the center of the Tunisian capital.

The Assistant Secretary-General of the Union, Sami Al-Tahri, said - in statements during the regional conference of the trade union organization in the city of Jendouba (north) - that the Union will not remain idly by and will play its national role "to spare the country chaos while it is on the verge of bankruptcy and social explosion."

Al-Tahri added that the union "will be forced to take escalatory measures in the event that there is no interaction with the dialogue, especially by the President of the Republic."

The federation, which has traditional influence in Tunisia, supported President Kais Saied's decisions to announce exceptional measures on July 25, 2021 and to dissolve parliament to end the state of political paralysis, but later objected to what he considered the president to be alone in deciding the country's fate.

gains of the revolution

On the other hand, the dean of Tunisian lawyers, Hatem Meziou, said that the legal profession will confront all forms of tyranny and will not accept a retreat from the gains of the revolution, considering that the new finance law is a dedication to the dictates of the International Monetary Fund.

"We affirm today that there are retreats from the democratic path and the path of respect for rights and freedoms," Meziou said, during a protest by lawyers in front of the Palace of Justice in the capital, Tunis.

Meziou stressed that Tunisian lawyers reject the subordination of the judiciary to any political party, criticizing the new constitution recently approved by President Said, stressing that it is not possible to accept a constitution that does not guarantee rights and freedoms and does not hold the existing authority accountable.

He also called on the authority to involve all organizations, stressing that there is no political life without parties.

It is noteworthy that Tunisia has been suffering since July 25, 2021, an acute political crisis after President Kais Saied began imposing exceptional measures, including dismissing the government, appointing another, dissolving the Judicial Council and Parliament, issuing legislation by presidential decrees, and approving a new constitution through a referendum that took place on July 25. and early parliamentary elections.
