Up to 30 centimeters of snow may fall in Östergötland, Västergötland, Dalsland and northern Småland during the next 24 hours.
SMHI has issued several yellow and orange warnings and on Tuesday it was announced that the Swedish Transport Administration chooses to pause traffic on certain railway sections in the area between 12 noon on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime.
- It is a pure risk assessment that we have learned the hard way, says Trafikverket's press manager Bengt Olsson.
Changeable road conditions
It looks like it will be most difficult around the southern tip of Lake Vättern and to the east.
Until then, train traffic on both Bohusbanan and Kinnekullebanan has been closed.
The larger train routes between, for example, Malmö and Stockholm and Gothenburg and Stockholm are expected to be unaffected.
The same applies to car traffic.
- We expect to be able to handle the larger roads, E4 and E6 and so on.
On the other hand, you should probably be prepared for heavy and wet snow to easily break pine trees that are at risk of falling over smaller roads or contact lines, says Bengt Olsson in SVT Morgonstudion.
Those who are going out and driving should be prepared for varying road conditions.
- It is important to follow the weather forecasts that we have heard on both radio and television, but also to keep an eye on the temperature gauge in the car.
If diving, you should be extra careful, keep your distance and reduce your speed, says Bengt Olsson.
