A fast rail connection between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt Airport is approaching.

As reported by Deutsche Bahn, it has submitted the documents for the planning approval procedure for the Wallauer Spange, as the planned track connection is called, to the Federal Railway Authority.

The group also specified its schedule: According to this, the start of construction is scheduled for 2025 and the commissioning of the four-kilometer route is scheduled for the end of 2027.

The Wallauer Spange creates an opportunity to turn off the high-speed route from Frankfurt to Cologne in the direction of Wiesbaden and vice versa.

So far, the state capital has only been connected to the high-speed line to and from Cologne.

The new tracks will halve the travel time from Wiesbaden Central Station to the airport to 16 minutes, as Hesse's Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Die Grünen) emphasized on Wednesday.

The Hessen-Express, a new connection between Wiesbaden and Darmstadt, is to operate on the new route;

the journey between these two cities will then only take 30 minutes, a third less than at present.

A stop is to be set up near Hofheim-Wallau so that the places mentioned can also be easily reached from there.
