• Interview Juan Lobato: "The nationalist parties are insatiable, they will ask for more and that must be clear to manage this country"

While the time towards the elections continues to shorten at maximum speed, the PSOE tries to locate itself in a territory, the Community of Madrid, which in the last electoral appointment was elusive.

After winning the elections in May 2019, the Socialists did not go beyond being the third force in the past 4-M, behind the PP and Más Madrid, and

270,000 votes were left in just a couple of years

with Ángel Gabilondo at the helm of the list.

And it is against these forecasts that Juan Lobato intends to face off, in his first experience as regional leader, in the elections next spring.

To do this, the main trick that the leader of the PSOE-M will try to play is

to create "his own profile and discourse"

, according to party sources, in some political aspects following the line set by other barons of the party such as Emiliano García Page, Javier Lambán or Guillermo Fernández Vara.

«For years the PSOE in Madrid has not had its own line that is taken into account in Ferraz.

And it must mark it, ”a socialist leader acknowledges to EL MUNDO.

And in that way he is working in the Madrid executive of the socialists with Lobato at the helm.

Especially in two aspects, where the Secretary General

has already publicly distanced himself from the national leadership of Pedro Sánchez: taxation and relations with the Catalan pro-independence parties

.

Yesterday, in an interview with

El Español

, the leader of the PSOE-M placed as one of the axes of his campaign

the reduction of Personal Income Tax (IRPF) to those who earn less than 100,000 euros a year

and the exemption from paying Patrimony, Inheritance and Donation fees in the event that the assets generate employment and economic activity.

A measure opposed to that of the coalition government of PSOE and United We Can at the national level.

"Madrid has special economic characteristics and they must be taken into account", they point out among the Madrid socialists, where they do not consider the difference in criteria with Moncloa in this regard a problem.

What is the plan that you manage at the regional level?

"Progressivity".

That is to say,

that the highest incomes have a tax increase to sustain the decrease of the rest

.

This yes, in a line similar to that of the central Government: that those who win more pay more taxes than the lower incomes.

Already in October, the general secretary of the PSOE-M, almost newly arrived in office, stated in a party act that "95% of Madrid people would pay less taxes" if he managed to govern the Community of Madrid.

«

I defend a fiscal model that helps the average income of this country

», stressed the former mayor of Soto del Real, where he applied reductions in municipal taxes such as the Real Estate Tax (IBI) or the Waste Tax.

But one's own profile not only has fiscal overtones, it also has political ones.

Lobato was one of the first regional leaders of the PSOE to distance himself from the reforms of the crimes of sedition and, above all, embezzlement carried out from Moncloa together with Esquerra Republicana.

"

I am a Treasury technician and with public money there are no jokes

," Lobato assured in an interview with EL MUNDO on December 14, just a few hours after his party agreed on the reform with the Catalan separatists in a line in which they also agreed. Other barons critical of that pact have moved.

"I am not concerned electorally, I am concerned that the corrupt in this country do not have a day less of their sentence, whether they are from the PP, the PSOE or Catalan independentists," insisted the general secretary of the PSOE-M, who described the independentist forces as " insatiable».

«

Nationalism feeds on asking for more every day and we have to be very clear from minute one

to manage a country with a very wide territorial and social diversity», he asserted in the pages of this newspaper, reinforcing that idea of the own profile towards the appointment electoral.
