For an average apartment of 68 square metres, this means an increase in the monthly rent of approx. SEK 250 per month.

According to Larenius, the reason behind the percentage increase is partly due to the high inflation, partly due to rising electricity prices and interest rates.

- We try to hold back as much as we can, but we have to make some kind of price compensation.

We and our counterpart at the Tenants' Association have worked to find a good compromise in a very tough economic situation, says Lars Laurenius.

How do you think this might affect your tenants?

- I cannot answer for the individual tenant, but I think there is an understanding that we will raise the rent, he says.

Parties do not agree on rent increase

For Västmanland's part, it is currently only Kungörs fækets AB where the negotiations are clubbed and made public.

In other municipalities, it is completely at a standstill, says the Tenants' Association, as they have not agreed on the percentage increase of the rent increases.

- Some of our counterparts stick to an increase of between 6 to 8 percent, and we have not been prepared to move to those levels, says Johan Kretz, negotiator for the Tenants' Association in Västmanland.

Is it too high a percentage increase in your opinion?

- Yes, it is too crazy too high for the tenants who are also affected by the economic situation, says Johan Kretz.
