US authorities have decided to file an attempted murder charge against the man who attacked two New York police officers near Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Trevor Pickford, 19, who faces federal terrorism charges, was described by authorities as a recent radical who was visiting Manhattan from Maine.

Police said that at around 10 p.m. last Saturday, Pickford was reported to have attacked the two officers stationed outside the freezing New Year's Eve area of ​​Times Square.
