A spokesman for the Central Council for Freedom and Change in Sudan denied reports of the signing of a new political agreement, stressing that it would not back down from the signed framework agreement and that all parties were moving forward in its implementation.
He also indicated that talk of a new agreement caused confusion in the country's political scene.
Two well-informed Sudanese sources told Al-Jazeera - earlier - that the military component and two groups of the Forces for Freedom and Change - the Central Council along with the Democratic Bloc - agreed to sign a new declaration that would go beyond the dilemma of the framework political agreement signed on the fifth of last December, which was opposed by some. Political forces.
The two sources clarified that the new agreement required all parties to sign a new political declaration that benefits from all the proposed visions, including the political framework agreement.
They emphasized that the new agreement came after two meetings - held by the President of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, with representatives of the Central Council and the Democratic Bloc - which resulted in the formation of a joint committee.
Al-Jazeera correspondent in Khartoum, Haitham Awit, said that there are no details available about the new political declaration, but it is a new understanding aimed at accommodating the political forces that did not sign the framework agreement because of their reservations about its provisions.
Among the reservations were what was issued by the armed movements that signed the peace agreement in Juba, which feared the fate of the agreement after the signing of the framework agreement, which will lead to the formation of a fully civilian government and a review of the peace agreement concluded in Juba, the capital of the state of South Sudan.
And Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hamidti), Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, stated that there are ongoing contacts with the armed movements that did not sign the Juba Agreement, in order to join the new political declaration, taking into account their observations and demands.
These developments are taking place in Sudan at a time when the Egyptian intelligence director, Abbas Kamel, is visiting the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, where he met with the head of the Sovereignty Council and the Forces for Freedom and Change, the Central Council and the Democratic Bloc.
agreement consultations
It is noteworthy that the military component signed, on the fifth of last December, a framework agreement with the civil forces, led by the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change (the former ruling coalition), and other political forces (the original Democratic Unionist Party, the Popular Congress), and civil society organizations, in addition to movements An armed militia unites under the banner of the "Revolutionary Front" to start a transitional period that will last for two years.
The "tripartite mechanism" (the United Nations, the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)) and the Quartet consisting of the United States, Britain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE participated in the consultations on the framework agreement.
The agreement aims to resolve the Sudanese crisis that has been going on since October 25, 2021, when Al-Burhan imposed exceptional measures, including the dissolution of the Sovereign Council and the Transitional Ministers, the arrest of ministers and politicians, the declaration of a state of emergency and the dismissal of governors (governors).
Before Al-Burhan's exceptional procedures, a transitional phase began in Sudan on August 21, 2019, which was scheduled to end with elections in early 2024, during which power would be shared by the army, civil forces, and armed movements that signed the Juba Peace Agreement with the government in 2020.
