BEIJING, January 3 (Xinhua) According to the British "Independent" report on the 1st, the latest poll by the British polling agency Savanta showed that two years after the UK left the European Union, nearly two-thirds of the British people support whether to re-enter the European Union. Join the EU in a referendum.

The survey also reportedly showed that opposition to a referendum has fallen and now accounts for less than a quarter of those surveyed.

On January 31, 2020, the UK left the European Union and the "transition period" ended on December 31, 2020.

But since then, there is widespread perception among the British public that Britain's economic power, global influence and ability to control its own borders have all deteriorated.

The issue appears to be turning more people in favor of Britain rejoining the EU.

It is reported that the results of the survey show that currently 65% of Britons believe that a referendum should be held again to decide whether to return to the European Union, higher than the 55% in the same period last year.

22% think a referendum should be held immediately, 24% think it should be held within the next five years, while the number who think a second referendum "should never" fall to 24% from 32% last year.

The survey also found that 54% of respondents now believe Brexit was the "wrong decision", up from 46% last year.

Chris Hopkins of Savanta says many may be overestimating the potential benefits of Brexit.

"It's hard to imagine joining the EU as going to solve any of the UK's current economic problems," Hopkins said, "but popular perception matters."

Last week, the British Chamber of Commerce called on Sunak's government to re-examine how to improve Britain's trade with the EU.

There are signs that even some of those who originally stood for leaving the EU are starting to feel frustrated.

Former Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary George Eustis recently criticized the post-Brexit trade deal with Australia, saying it gave "too much for too little".
