A 16-year-old was seriously injured with several stab wounds by another teenager on Tuesday morning near a high school in Hyères (Var), we learned from the Toulon prosecutor's office.

During a "physical altercation" between the two minors, "one of them used a knife and struck several blows" at the other.

The victim was hospitalized in serious condition and "his vital prognosis is engaged", said the prosecution.

The alleged attacker is 15 years old.

The 15-year-old alleged attacker was arrested and taken into custody for attempted murder.

According to a police source, he was arrested by a Police Rescue team inside the school itself, the Golf-Hotel vocational school.

The causes of the initial altercation are not yet known, but according to "testimonies from classmates of the victim" quoted by France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, "there was an old dispute between the two young people.
