President Yoon Seok-yeol announced that he is pursuing a plan to jointly plan and practice the US nuclear force in response to North Korea's nuclear threat.

President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has emphasized peace through strength in the face of the ever-growing North Korean nuclear threat, such as "We will increase the amount of nuclear warheads exponentially," directly mentioned the concept of 'Korean nuclear sharing'.

President Yoon said, "South Korea and the United States are discussing ways to operate the US nuclear forces under the concept of joint planning and joint exercises."

He explained the background, saying, "The US concept of 'nuclear umbrella' or 'extended deterrence' is that the US will take care of everything, so don't worry, but it is difficult to convince the public to that extent now."

Joint nuclear force planning and joint exercises were agreed upon at the Korea-US Security Consultative Meeting in November last year, and reflect the will of the Korean government in establishing the US nuclear strategy and operation plan, and also participate in the training process.

The US military's tactical nuclear warheads are deployed in five European countries, but the presidential office explains that the final authority to use nuclear weapons is a system that is more advanced than the 'NATO-style nuclear sharing' that the United States has.

A high-ranking official in the presidential office explained, "The goal is to activate practical means of punishment and retaliation in case of emergency."
