Their music portrays life and crime in Stockholm's suburbs and has millions of listens on Spotify.

Now several rap artists are said to be at the center of the last few weeks' acts of violence in Sweden - both as targets and as suspected perpetrators.

Rap artist 1

On the night of Monday, a gate to an apartment building in Grimsta in Stockholm was blown up, according to the police's suspicions as a response to a fatal shooting in Vällingby on New Year's Eve.

A famous rap artist is written on the address.

The artist has achieved great success in recent years, but at the same time is said to have close ties to the criminal environment in Västerort, according to police intelligence.

He has previously been convicted of serious weapons offenses and several drug offences.

- I cannot go into whether he is a target.

But I can state that we have a very good idea of who is written to the various addresses, says Max Åkerwall, police chief in the Stockholm police region.

Rap artist 2

Four people have been arrested by the police after the explosion in Grimsta - including another well-known rap artist, according to information to SVT.

The artist is successful and has been praised for his music.

According to police sources, he has moved in gang criminal circles and he has previously been convicted of, among other things, weapons offences, grand theft and drug offences.

Rap artist 3

A few days earlier, during the night leading up to New Year's Eve, an explosive device detonated in a gate in Rågsved.

There is also a rap artist written on the address.

The artist has connections to a criminal network in southern Stockholm, according to police intelligence.

He is previously convicted of involvement in the high-profile kidnapping of Einár, who was later shot to death in 2021.

Several of the other crimes after the Christmas holiday are suspected of having been directed at other people who were variously accused of involvement in the murder of Einár.

Police Chief Max Åkerwall does not want to comment in detail about the police's suspicions regarding the ongoing wave of violence.

- We have had several explosions both in the southern and northern parts of Stockholm.

It is interesting to look at other crimes that have taken place recently, but also things that have taken place further back in time and that could constitute some form of vendetta, he says.
